What this tool does

UPI Split Bill & QR Studio turns a single bill into a set of scannable UPI QR codes. You can split in two different ways:

  • Amount & Chunks mode — Enter the total, set a per-QR limit (default ₹1,999 to stay under the PPI wallet interchange threshold), and the tool generates multiple QR codes whose amounts sum exactly to the total. Useful for large bills where a single UPI transfer would exceed wallet limits.
  • Split by People mode — Add group members, assign each one their share, and generate one named QR code per person. The total member shares must match the grand total (after tips), or the tool will warn you.

Both modes support optional tip/tax percentage, live paid/unpaid tracking, local history, and shareable payment cards (PNG export or native share sheet on mobile).

How to use it

  1. Enter your UPI ID and optional payee/store name.
  2. Enter the total bill amount and, if needed, a tip or tax percentage.
  3. Choose a split mode: chunks by amount limit, or by individual member shares.
  4. Click "Generate QR Codes." The tool builds one or more UPI QR codes and starts a payment tracker.
  5. Tap the paid toggle on any QR card once the person has paid. The counter updates instantly.
  6. Click "Share QR" on any card to export a styled payment image — perfect for WhatsApp or email.
  7. Save the split to history if you want to come back to it later.

Why the ₹1,999 per-QR default?

UPI apps and PPI wallets (prepaid payment instruments) apply an interchange fee when a single transaction exceeds ₹2,000. Keeping each QR code under ₹1,999 avoids that fee. You can raise the limit freely — the tool warns you when you cross the threshold but still lets you generate the codes.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool actually process UPI payments?

No. This tool generates UPI QR codes and payment links, but it does not process payments itself. You still need to scan the QR or open the UPI link with a real UPI app like PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, or BHIM. The tool is purely a generator and tracker.

Is my UPI ID or bill amount stored on a server?

No. Everything happens in your browser using JavaScript. Your UPI ID, bill amount, and history are stored only in your browser's localStorage on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to any server, and the author of this tool has no way to see your data.

What is the ₹1,999 per-QR limit, and why does it matter?

UPI apps and PPI wallets (prepaid payment instruments) apply an interchange fee when a single transaction exceeds ₹2,000. Keeping each QR code at ₹1,999 or below avoids that fee. The limit is a default — you can raise it, and the tool will warn you but still generate the codes if you choose to.

Can I track who has paid?

Yes. Each QR card has a paid/unpaid toggle in the top-right corner. Click it once the person has paid, and the counter at the top updates instantly. The paid state is saved to your browser's localStorage if you save the split to history.

Which UPI apps are supported?

The generated UPI QR codes follow the standard upi://pay URI scheme, which is supported by all major UPI apps — PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM, and any other UPI-compliant payment application. The tool displays these app names as a visual reference on each card.

What if the group members' shares don't add up to the grand total?

The tool will display a warning: "Doesn't match Grand Total." It will not generate the QR codes until the shares match within ₹0.01. You can use the "Split Equally" button to auto-distribute the amount across all members, or adjust individual shares manually.

Can I share the QR codes with someone far away?

Yes. Click "Share QR" on any card to generate a styled payment image. On mobile, this opens the native share sheet — you can send it via WhatsApp, email, or any other app. On desktop, the image is copied to your clipboard (if supported) or downloaded as a PNG that you can send manually.

Does this tool work offline?

Yes. After the page has loaded once, the tool continues to work without an internet connection — including QR generation, tips, history, and saving. Only the share functionality may be limited offline, depending on your browser's capabilities.
